Our umpires at Margaret River Hockey Club are all volunteers and many are players keen to give back to the club. This is the same across the grassroots sporting club community. We know that our volunteer umpires play a vital part ensuring each weekend games can be enjoyed and played by all.
The club (and Busselton Hockey Association) offfers support and guidance for all volunteer umpires. There are great training links and online courses available and the club provides umpire coaching clinics and training and follows a (Hockey WA / Hockey Australia) structured training program. If we are running courses, they will be listed below on our club events calendar.

We want to ensure our umpiras (and players) get the opportunity to learn the rules of the game as well as strategies on how to create a positive hockey experience. Players and foundation support umpires are encouraged to attend any courses that are organised through the club, these will be listed on our events calendar
Hockey Australia In partnership with the Australian Sports Commission and the state bodies, have improved the training materials and developed a new accreditation program - Hockey ED. The new framework aims to improve the participant experience, by providing umpires and officials with the knowledge on creating a positive hockey experience.
Our goal is for our umpires (and players keen to learn the rules) the opportunity to have the following Hockey Australia accredited qualifications as a minimum.
Foundation Support Umpire
Foundation Support Umpire - the first accreditation in the umpiring framework and is aimed at providing prospective umpires with an introduction to the game’s fundamental rules - its FREE - completed online (approx 2 hours online) receive a certificate at the end!

Foundation Lead Umpire - 2nd accreditation - 2 parts - online course and your assessment, which can be taken whilst umpiring any level of full-field or Hockey 5s game.
