It’s time for Margaret River Hockey Club - Summer Hockey 7s!
Our Summer 7s are fun, social evenings perfect for those picking up a stick for the first time or staving off the rust in the off-season. All are welcome.
For 2025 we will be running two separate evenings, starting on Wednesday 5th November for the junior/family session, and Thursday 6th November for seniors.
Fees just $5 per game.
Wednesdays - Junior/Family Teams
Parents are encouraged to join the fun on Wednesday nights, especially if your kids (or you) are new to the sport. We will have our bar open and (hopefully, if we get volunteers) a BBQ running from 5:30pm with sausages and burgers available.
The 4.30 pm slot for Yr 1 -5s (and parents) will be fun focused, to encourage newbies to the game. We’ll run a round-robin competition of four teams .
Please register using the link button, so we can sort out teams!

Senior teams will be responsible for umpiring of their own grade as rostered. Teams must supply two umpires for each game, and must bring their own whistles
Social teams will have at least one volunteer umpire supplied for their games. There will be an opportunity for mentoring of younger players
Scorecards will be provided, to be completed by the umpires. These are to be signed and returned to folder at Hockey HQ. Please also scan / take photo and text to TJ
This competition is a great opportunity for us all to gain some confidence in our umpiring. Be respectful to the umpires, exercise honesty, and be encouraging!

Normal rules for hockey with the following exceptions:
Teams consist of 6 field players and a padded goalkeeper. 7 field players with no goalkeeper is permitted
Penalty corners replaced with one-on-ones (8 seconds to score). If the defending team is playing without a goalkeeper, advantage goal will be automatically awarded
Following a goal being scored, the ball is played by the defending team 5 yards from the baseline, with no stoppage
Borrowing of players from other teams is allowed, but only to make up 7 players
Social (family) comp only - All shots at goal must be below backboard height (due to a lack of goalkeepers, and wide range of skill levels registered for this grade)
Social (family) games - NO OVERHEADS! Let’s keep it safe and friendly!
-
The umpires will be responsible for keeping strictly to the allocated times, to ensure even the last game of the night starts on time. Please use our NEW SCOREBOARD FOR TIME KEEPING!
If a game starts late, it must still finish on time. Players must not enter the field until the previous game has finished. Following their own game, players must exit the field in a timely fashion prior to the next game commencing.
Antisocial behaviour will not be tolerated at any time. This is essentially an intra-club competition - be nice to each other!

Once a player's registration has been accepted by the club, they are covered under the insurance policy provided by the governing body, Hockey Australia.
It is important that all members understand what insurance cover is included in their registration fees, and make their own determination as to whether they need to consider any additional private health insurance to supplement the HA provided cover.
This is not a Hockey WA or MRHC responsibility.
